- In the 12th century the place is called "Wal (t) lease", only at the end of the 15th century does the name Oberwaldbach appear to distinguish it from the castle of the same name near Scheppach (today Unterwaldbach ).
- In 1507, Philipp von Stain combined all the feudal estates in Oberwaldbach with the alloddial estates of the Eberstall dominion in Oberwaldbach. After 1602, the Lords of Stain zu Eberstall lived in the castle in Oberwaldbach, which was abandoned after the new castle in Eberstall in 1662 and fell into disrepair. In the 18th century the whole place went to the Barons Schenk von Stauffenberg .
- Around 1720 Oberwaldbach had 78 properties.
- In 1818, the hamlet Eberstall was incorporated into Oberwaldbach by the municipal edict . The Humprechtsmühle also belonged to the community. During the municipal reform in 1978, the municipality was dissolved, Eberstall came to Jettingen-Scheppach and Oberwaldbach and Humprechtsmühle were incorporated into Burtenbach.
