ObsCure is one of Hydra Vision Entertainment developed and MC2-Microïds published survival horror game for PlayStation 2 , Windows PCs and Xbox . The port for the PlayStation Portable was published by Playlogic .

action

The game is about five teenagers attending the fictional Leafmore High School . At the school in question, decades before the action of the game, there were cases of students who disappeared and never reappeared. When one of the teenagers - Kenny Matthews - disappears, the remaining four go to find him and stay in the school building after class. There they witness an incomprehensible horror. Gradually it turns out that the principal has something to do with the disappearance of the students and some dark machinations come to light.

A special feature of the game is that it can be played in pairs. To do this, the players take control of one of the five characters and roam the school building together. When playing alone, the second piece becomes a " sidekick ", i.e. H. it follows and defends the character controlled by the player. Another special feature is that you have the option of changing characters during the game.

The course of the film The Faculty served as a template for the game .

The game was temporarily sold with the wrong age rating "No youth rating according to § 14 JuSchG FSK". Accordingly, this version does not differ from the correctly labeled version.

Music in the game

The French composer Olivier Derivière is responsible for the soundtrack . Parts of the soundtrack were sung by the children's choir of the Opera National de Paris under the direction of conductor Gael Darchen . The game also features songs by Sum 41 (“Still waiting”) and the Norwegian band SPAN (“Don't think the way they do”). The German version also contains music by Sportfreunde Stiller .

Obscure II / The Aftermath

On September 27, 2007 the sequel Obscure II was released for PlayStation 2, PC (Windows) and Wii , this time the publisher is Playlogic Entertainment. A port of the second part for the PlayStation Portable was released on October 9, 2009 under the title Obscure: The Aftermath .

The plot of Obscure II begins around two years after the events of the first part. The main characters of the first part lead normal lives again, some are now attending university. However, with the appearance of a strange plant on campus, the struggle for survival begins all over again.

In contrast to the first part, however, German dubbing was not used.
