Obtest is a metal band from Vilnius , Lithuania , formed in 1992.
Band history
In 1992 Obtest was founded by Sadlave (vocals) and Baalberith (guitar). After a year underground , Obtest recorded their first demo Oldness Comming in 1995 . In 1995 the live in-house production Live at Poltergeist followed , recorded at a festival. On December 22nd of the same year, the band recorded their second demo Prieš Audr (German: Before the storm). On April 23, 1997 the debut album "Tukstantmetis" (German: Millennium) followed on MC. In 1998 the German label Miriguidi Productions produced the EP "9 9 7" with three songs. In September 1998 the band produced a promo EP for the "Baltic Thunder" festival with other Baltic metal bands, such as Tharaphita , Skyforger , Zpoan Vtenz and Pocculus in Vilnius.
In December 1999 Obtest's debut album "Tukstantmetis" was re-released on CD for the German market by German Wolf Music with the support of Miriguidi Productions. From September 22nd to October 2nd, 2000 Obtest toured Germany for the first time as the opening act for the band Eminenz . In October 2001 the EP "PRISIEK 7" was produced in Germany and in December of the same year the second album by Auka Seniems Dievams followed , released on CD and limited LP by the Lithuanian label Ledo Takas Records. Between 2000 and 2002 Obtest completed two tours through Europe. While Edvardas (bass) and Bestial (drums) left the band after recording their first album in 1999, Enrikas (guitar) and Demonas (bass) joined the band.
On April 4, 2008 the album Gyvybės medis was released in three different formats on the French label Osmose Productions and the Lithuanian label Ledo Takas , Ledo Takas is responsible for the publication in the Baltic States .
style
At first the band played death metal , but later changed their music towards black metal . Early influencing factors were the bands of "the second wave" , especially the groups Enslaved , Grand Belial's Key , Mayhem and Darkthrone . Later elements of traditional power metal and hard rock in the style of Manowar and AC / DC , as well as the early death metal influences ( grave , death ) were added again. The Obtest style can therefore only be assigned to a certain variety with difficulty, as elements of folk , pagan and heavy metal can also be found in addition to the former styles . The vocals are sometimes screeching, sometimes only slightly aggressive or epic. The concise melody guitar is also typical. The singing is only in Lithuanian , with some demo recordings also being sung in English. The texts deal with Lithuanian history, myths, legends, wars and religion. The band itself calls their style Heathen War Heavy Metal .
