The Obwalden weekly newspaper with the subtitle Independent Obwalden local newspaper was a Swiss newspaper in the canton of Obwalden . It was founded in 1975 and appeared in Lungern under the title D'r Lungerer until 1981 , then as the Obwalden weekly newspaper in Sarnen . In August 2009 it expired as an independent newspaper, but has since continued to appear as a special page in the local section of the Obwaldner Zeitung ( Neue Obwaldner Zeitung until September 2016 ).

history

The Lungerer newspaper pioneer Gottfried Burch (1897–1981) published the Brother Klausen calendar annually for decades and the village newspaper Der Lungerer Bote every week . His son Kari Burch later took over the publishing company, which was closed in 1973. At the beginning of 1975, the Giswil printer owner Josef “Sepp” Küchler enabled 78-year-old Gottfried Burch to start over. He founded a press association in Lungern and published the newspaper D'r Lungerer as a news paper for the upper part of the canton.

After the sudden death of Gottfried Burch in 1981, the newspaper was renamed Obwaldner Wochenblatt , and Peter Ming took over the editorial management. In the following year, Küchler Druck was able to take over the publishing rights for the 100-year-old local newspaper Der Obwaldner (formerly: Der Obwaldner Volksfreund ). With over 7,000 subscribers, the weekly newspaper had a monopoly in Obwalden for a long time. When the Luzerner Tagblatt ceased operations in 1992, the publishing rights of Josef Küchler went to the Luzerner Zeitung .

In 1993 the Obwaldner Wochenblatt merged with the Neue Obwaldner Zeitung . However, there was still its own editorial office in Sarnen, and the weekly was published as an independent newspaper on Fridays.

On August 21, 2009, the last independent edition of the newspaper appeared as No. 24 in the 35th year with a circulation of 4,584 copies. After that, the newspaper was shut down for economic reasons. Since August 26, 2009, the Wochenblatt no longer appears as a separate newspaper, but has been integrated into the Neue Obwaldner Zeitung (since September 19, 2016: Obwaldner Zeitung ). At the same time, the separate editorial office in Sarnen was dissolved. Since then, mostly on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the regional section of the newspaper, a page or two has the title “Obwaldner Wochenblatt”. The content of these pages does not come from the newspaper editorial office in Stans, but is submitted for publication by readers, associations, organizations and companies.
