Karl Imfeld (born October 6, 1931 in Sarnen ; † August 19, 2020 in Kerns ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic pastor , dialect lexigrapher , folklorist , writer and radio play author.

Life

Imfeld was the son of the factory worker Karl Felix and Hermine nee Jakober. He was born in Sarnen and grew up there too. From 1945 to 1954 he attended grammar school in Sarnen and grammar school in Altdorf , after which he studied theology and philosophy at the St. Luzi seminary in Chur . From 1958 to 1962 he was vicar in Chur at the cathedral parish . From 1962 he was chaplain and from 1969 to 1996 pastor in Kerns . From 1969 to 1983 he was the first editor to edit the Obwalden parish gazette . From 1991 to 1998 he was Dean of the Obwalden Dean 's Office . He retired at the end of 1996 and lived in Kerns.

Awards

Imfeld was awarded the Basel Radio Play Prize for his radio play Pilgrimage . In 2006 he received the Obwalden Culture Prize for his literary and folklore work. The municipality of Kerns honored Imfeld in 2008 with the «Kabriizi» award.

In addition to his work as a pastor and pastor, Imfeld was also a dialect researcher, folklorist and writer. In almost twenty years of work, he created the Obwalden dialect dictionary between 1980 and 2000 ; The Neue Zürcher Zeitung commented on this : «Karl Imfeld's Obwalden dictionary draws on the full; it is particularly dedicated to popular jokes, as shown in countless sayings and anecdotes. The book deserves attention beyond the canton's borders ». The dictionary material is now in the archive of the Swiss Idiotikon .

From 1989 to 1998 Imfeld was the author and speaker of the morning program “Zum neue Tag” on Swiss radio DRS . In 2000 he wrote the monthly column «Obwalden sayings and speeches» in the Obwalden weekly newspaper. In addition to his books, he wrote many articles on folklore that have appeared in various books.
