Ochotona dauurica huangensis is a subspecies of Daurian Pfeifhasen or subtype of the family of Pfeifhasen within the leporidae . Its distribution area is an area in the province of Sichuan in China limited. Ochotona durica huangensis is sometimestreatedas a separate species of Ochotona huangensis .

features

Ochotona lasturica huangensis is a medium-sized pika with a body length of 12.5 to 17.6 centimeters. It largely corresponds in its appearance to Ochotona thibetana , as its subspecies it was considered until 1992, and differs from this only slightly in morphological details.

distribution

Distribution area of Ochotona huangensis

Ochotona lasturica huangensis is endemic to the People's Republic of China . It lives in the mountain regions of the provinces Shaanxi , Gansu , Qinghai , Sichuan , Shanxi , Henan and Hubei , where it sometimes occurs sympathetically with other whistling hares. So he lives sympatric with Ochotona thibetana in Qin Ling and in northwestern Sichuan and with Ochotona cansus in Xunhua, Qinghai and southern Gansu. It usually occurs at altitudes of up to 2700 meters, but can locally reach 4000 meters.

Way of life

Little information is available about the way of life of this pika. It lives in mountainous regions in a similar way to other whistles in China and feeds on plants in a generalist way. As habitats uses Ochotona dauurica huangensis different habitats of coniferous and deciduous coniferous mixed forests through bushland to grassland. The animals also create complex residential structures in the ground.

Systematics

The first scientific description of Ochotona dorturica huangensis was made by the German zoologist Paul Matschie in 1908. The pigeon hare was originally considered a subspecies of the moupin pigeon hare ( Ochotona thibetana ), but was described in 1992 by Yu and Zheng based on morphological data as a separate species. This has been demonstrated by Yu et al. 1997 and 2000 confirmed on the basis of molecular biological data. Andrei Alexandrowitsch Lissowski assigned it as a synonym in 2013 as part of a taxonomic revision of the genus, mainly on the basis of craniometric data, and in 2016 in the Handbook of the Mammals of the World as a subspecies to the Daurian pigeon hare ( Ochotona durica ), but emphasized the need for a future revision within this type.

Hazard and protection

Ochotona lasturica huangensis was classified as Ochotona huangensis by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) due to its very large distribution area and the comparatively large population as not endangered (least concern). The entry was deleted due to the reclassification as a subspecies.
