The gold monads (Ochromonadales, Syn .: Chrysomonadales) are a taxon of the gold algae and belong to the morphological type of flagellates .

The cells of the gold monads are naked, with periplast , a protoplasmic layer thickened as a cell envelope (plasmatic outer membrane) or with envelopes or housings that are separated from the periplast. If envelopes are present, they fit the protoplast closely. In the family Coccolithophoridaceae there are pebbly scales or calcareous bodies as deposits or, more rarely, as deposits. Some species have an internal pebble skeleton. Other genera form endogenous cysts within their cells .

The gold monads have yellow to brown colored bodies and one or two flagella . Colonies of the species Dinobryon sertularia from the family Ochromonadaceae are often found in the plankton of nutrient-rich waters.
