The Ochsenkogel is 1458  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Murtal in Styria. It was discussed as the location of a wind power plant.

Location and landscape

The mountain is located on the northern flank of the Gleinalpe , about 7 kilometers south of Leoben and just as far south-east of Sankt Michael in Obersteiermark , on the border of the two municipal areas. As a foothill of the Karneralpe, it forms the western continuation of the Hochalpe train , its ridge runs northwest to the Schinninger  ( 974  m above sea level ).

The Schladnitzgraben (also cadastral community of Leoben, near Hinterberg zur Mur) stretches to the east into the Gleinalm area, to the southwest the Lochitzbach rises in the Sankt Michaeler cadastral area Hinterleinsach (near St. Michael zur Mur).

Planned wind farm Ochsenkogel

Around 2005 a wind farm was under discussion here. 7 wind turbines, model Vestas V90 (?), Each with a nominal output of 2 MW and a tower height of 118 meters (hub height of 110 meters) were to be built. The project had already been approved, but was not pursued by the operator for economic reasons.

In the Styrian development program for the field of wind energy (Sapro Windenergie) from 2013, the area is neither designated as a priority nor a development area, but neither is it an explicit exclusion zone.
