Oda Yorozu

Oda Yorozu ( Japanese 織田 萬 , also modern: 織田 万 ; *  August 21, 1868 ( traditional : Keiō 4/7/4) in Suko, Kishima-gun , Hizen Province (today: Shiroishi , Kishima-gun, Saga Prefecture ) ; †  May 26, 1945 ) was a Japanese lawyer . He worked from 1899 to 1930 as a professor at the Imperial University of Kyoto and from 1922 to 1930 as a judge at the Permanent International Court of Justice .

Oda Yorozu

Oda Yorozu was born in 1868 in the village of Suko ( 須 古 ) in Hizen Province, which was part of the Saga fiefdom . He first graduated from Nihon Law School, now the Law Faculty of Nihon University , before studying law at the Imperial University of Tokyo . In 1892 he completed this in French from law and then specialized in a Research Training Group on Administrative Law .

After he had undertaken a trip to Europe from 1896 to 1899 , where he studied at the University of Paris , among other things , he was appointed professor at the newly founded Imperial University of Kyoto in 1899 . He taught administrative law and French law there until 1930 and also served as dean of the law faculty from 1901 to 1907. He taught at the Nihon Law School from 1900 and became its deputy director in 1908. From 1917 to 1922 he was Rector of Kansai College . In September 1921 he was elected by the Assembly and the Council of the League of Nations as judge at the Permanent International Court of Justice in The Hague , where he served from 1922 to 1930. With his end of office at the court he also ended his academic career at the Imperial University of Kyoto and became professor emeritus .

Oda Yorozu belonged from 1918 to the Imperial Academy of Sciences of Japan and from 1925 to the Institut de Droit international . He was appointed a member of the manor by the emperor, and on October 31, 1931 he was also awarded the Order of the Holy Treasure, first class. He died in 1945.
