Odertaler Sägemühle is a district of the Lower Saxon town of Braunlage in the Goslar district .

history

The Odertal sawmill, first mentioned in 1512, was once an important part of a branch of industry in the Harz Mountains in the middle between Bad Lauterberg , Sankt Andreasberg and Braunlage on today's federal road 27 . The loggers brought their felled wood here for further use in mines and building houses. The sawmill was operated until 1985. In the course of time, paddle wheels, water turbines, steam engines and diesel engines were used as drives. The Odertaler sawmill still has no connection to the public power grid. The water turbine and steam engine are still there and should be prepared for inspection.

After 1985, the sawmill was converted into an excursion destination with a mineral house and an exhibition hall for woodcut and wood carving. From 1998 to 2004 the Odertal sawmill stood empty and unused. The Fischer family has been running the company since 2004 and has created a focal point for everyone through renovations and conversions. There are now more than 60 overnight accommodations, tent sites and parking spaces for mobile homes in the various houses of the ensemble.

Originally the settlement belonged to the mountain town of Sankt Andreasberg . With their incorporation to Braunlage on November 1, 2011, Odertaler Sägemühle became a district of the town of Braunlage.
