action

Judith (40) is surprised by her boyfriend Gregor (41) with a wellness vacation in Sicily to recover from work. The hotel seems deserted in the off-season and offers little distraction. Since the couple's relationship is in turmoil and Judith doesn't want to go on vacation, the calls from her father's company are a welcome change. It is the last few months before their child is born and Judith cannot see why the pregnancy should affect her life. Gregor's expectations of the future family and the pressure on Judith's job increase her urge to break free. The last few days at the resort turn into a power struggle, which is about the compatibility of family, professional success and self-determination. A letter about the future is supposed to decide what to do next, but Judith develops her own plans. She runs away. In Palermo she meets various women - and the patron saint of the city: through Saint Rosalia, she recognizes a part of herself that she has long misunderstood.

Criticism and background

“An expressive picture of today's generation of 25 to 45-year-olds can be shown in the varieties of love. (...) The filmmakers and their characters are creative, self-centered, hedonistic and move in the field of tension between the thirst for adventure and self-realization on the one hand and the longing for trust and security on the other. "

- Linda Söffker : Berlinale

" OFF SEASON works with an accuracy and style that we definitely want to emphasize. The film is an overall composition of all trades. Camera, light, sound, music, equipment, make-up, costume, script, direction and acting can be found in one stylistic throw, who takes up and shows very sensitively a relevant topic - which expectations are placed in our society on the body of a woman and the role of the mother. The fact that both characters do not want to be sympathetic to us, but their history and their conflicts affect us, impressed us very much. "

The film was made as a master’s degree at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf .
