Assessment center for Bundeswehr executives

The Assessment Center for Executives of the Bundeswehr (ACFüKrBw) , formerly the Officer Applicant Examination Center ( OPZ ), is an area of activity of the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr (BAPersBw). It represents the central assessment center of the Bundeswehr , in which applicants who are striving for a career as an officer in the Bundeswehr are tested for their personal, psychological and physical suitability. The ACFüKrBw is located in the Mudra barracks in Cologne . At the same time, it represents phase I of the examination of the officer applicants for aviation service. The application for the career of officers for recruitment on July 1 must be submitted to the military service advisor by February 28 of the year at the latest . The selection process takes two days, plus an arrival day. Applicants will receive a voucher from the Bundeswehr for the outward and return journey, which is valid for Deutsche Bahn .

The test stations

The test stations are run through in different order in order to better utilize the available capacities and to shorten waiting times.

Physical examination

This is an examination corresponding to the pattern , at the end of which the applicant is classified into a suitability level . To be accepted as an officer candidate, at least the qualification level T2 is required.

Among other things, the following tests and measurements are carried out:

Group situation procedure

Three to five applicants sit at a table and are observed by a control officer ( major / lieutenant colonel ) or a psychologist and an examiner ( lieutenant / captain ). All observations are documented.

In this procedure, the command of the word in the group ( rhetoric ), the behavior in a group and the content of the statements ( planning ) are tested. There should be an appropriate and polite culture of conversation.

In order to check this, the group is assigned three task areas (two simulation games, one short presentation): In the simulation games , the behavior in a group is evaluated. During the presentation, behavior in front of a group is assessed.

First, a situation discussion is held. This is a problem for which applicants should find the best possible solution in twelve minutes. There is no model solution.

The next thing is limited resources, which means that the group does not get enough of one resource for all members. The point is to defend one's claim to the resource or to receive adequate compensation for the waiver. The group has eight minutes for this.

Finally, there is a short lecture. For this, everyone is assigned a topic that comes from everyday life or could come. You now have 25 minutes to deal with the topic intensively. Then you have a maximum of 10 minutes to present and explain your solution to the problem.

Student counseling

Student counseling is always carried out for applicants for the military service if there are discrepancies between the applicant's wishes and his or her performance potential, for example if a technical degree is desired, but the grades in mathematics or physics are below average. Another reason for student advice can be that an applicant with a technical college entrance qualification wishes to study at a university and alternative options are discussed with him.

The planning officer is informed of the result of the interview. This then decides whether or not he can employ the applicant with the desired course.

interview

The personal interview corresponds to a normal job interview . All test results from the personality questionnaire , the short essay , the computer-based personality test and the group situation procedure are also included.

The interview is a hypothesis- led conversation, i. H. questions are asked on specific subject areas. The applicant is asked questions that the examination committee has put together individually for the candidate based on the individual previous tests or that result from the interview.

The interview should be conducted by the same people who were present at the group situation procedure. If this is not possible for organizational reasons, all relevant information will be passed on to the new examination board so that the applicant will not suffer any disadvantage.

Since all information relevant to the decision on general officer suitability is available at the beginning of the interview, a decision can be made on the suitability of the applicant after the interview. The decision is made available to the applicant immediately after the interview, which makes the interview a particularly important stage for many applicants. In fact, however, it is only the final stage in the assessment.

Scheduling

A final planning interview is held with applicants who have passed all these tests with the aim of determining to what extent the desired study / application and the performance potential shown can be reconciled with the needs of the armed forces.

If the test result of the applicant is so good that only a few applicants will be better in the remaining application period, an immediate confirmation can be given here, i.e. H. the applicant is guaranteed employment. The remaining applicants will initially be placed on a waiting list in order to maintain equal opportunities and will be notified of their recruitment or rejection at a later date.

A small percentage of applicants are directly hired as career officer candidates (BOA); H. if certain requirements are met (promotion to lieutenant and passing the diploma or certain training stages), the BOA is offered the takeover as a professional soldier , which he can refuse. Thus, the granting of the BOA status is a unilateral obligation of the Bundeswehr to the applicant.

There is a one-off opportunity to repeat the officer test after six months if the examiners rated you as “currently unsuitable” after the interview. If the course is classified as “unsuitable”, it cannot be repeated for three years. Afterwards, however, you can apply again. If there is a disagreement regarding the recommended course of study, a follow-up consultation can take place after six months upon request. If the required performance has not been achieved at the PFT , this can be repeated at the earliest after six weeks and at most up to four months after taking the first test and a corresponding certificate can be submitted later. The test result remains valid for this period.

Applicants for aviation service

Who are the pilots applying, must an additional flier test completed. This is followed by a medical examination (phase II) and an aeronautical aptitude test (phase III) in Fürstenfeldbruck .

Applicants who are not suitable for aviation service, but who have the same qualifications for an officer career as the remaining applicants, can continue to participate in the selection process.

Application for aptitude test for the career of officers

The normal process of applying for an officer’s career is to contact the regional career advisor. There you will receive initial information and the application documents as part of a consultation. These are then reviewed and handed over to the career advisor at a follow-up appointment. For the careers of the teams , NCOs and sergeants , the suitability assessment takes place in the career centers of the Bundeswehr.
