The Oituz Pass ( Romanian Pasul Oituz ) is a 866 m high pass in the Covasna district . The pass overcomes the Eastern Carpathians and leads into the Transylvanian Basin .
Because of its strategic importance, it was fiercely defended by German and Austrian units against the Romanian units during World War I.
A memorial to the battles of the First World War has been erected in the village of Oituz .
The national road DN11 , which is part of the European route 574 here, runs over the pass .
