Okanogan [ ˌoʊkəˈnɒɡən ] is a city ( City ) in Okanogan County in the US state of Washington and the county seat of the county of the same name. The name comes from the Syilx'tsn and means "rendezvous" or "meeting point". The population at the 2010 census was 2,552 within the Greater Omak Area . The city's motto is “100 Years of Community Pride” (roughly 100 years of pride in the community).
Okanogan has a small commuter airfield, the Okanogan Legion Airport - (S35) with a paved runway that is 772 meters long.

2010 Census
As of the 2010 census , Okanogan had 2,552 residents, 983 households and 619 families. The population density was 505.3 per km ². There were 1,051 housing units at an average density of 208.1 per km². The population consisted of 79.8% White , 0.5% African American , 7.9% Indian , 0.4% Asian , 0.2% Pacific Islander , 6.4% from other "races" and 4.8% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 14.1% of the population.
Of the 983 households, 32.6% had children under the age of 18, 40.6% were run by married couples living together , 15.8% by single mothers and 6.6% by single fathers; 37% were non-families. 30.1% of the households were singles and 11.4% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.91.
The median age in the city was 37.7 years. 24.2% of the population were under 18, 10.1% between 18 and 24, 24.3% between 25 and 44, 26.6% between 45 and 64 and 14.9 years or older. 50.7% of the population were men and 49.3% women.
Census 2000
As of the 2000 census, Okanogan had 2,484 residents, 909 households, and 599 families. The population density was 524.1 per km². There were 997 housing units at an average density of 210.4 per km². The population consisted of 80.60% white, 0.36% African-American, 8.17% Indian, 0.40% Asian, 0.08% Pacific islander , 6.64% from other "races" and 3.74% from two or more "races". Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 10.10% of the population.
Of the 909 households, 37.1% were caring for children under the age of 18, 48.1% were run by married couples living together and 13.4% by single mothers; 34.0% were non-families. 28.7% of the households were singles and 10.9% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.06.
The median age in the city was 37 years. 27.7% of the population were under 18, 8.9% between 18 and 24, 26.4% between 25 and 44, 21.9% between 45 and 64 and 15.1% 65 years or older. There were 99.7 men for every 100 women, and 94.6 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 26,994 and that of families was US $ 33,947. Men had a median income of US $ 31,143 versus US $ 20,822 for women. The per capita income was US $ 13,849. About 20.2% of families and 24.3% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 31.9% of those under 18 and 16.3% of those over 65.
