Olaf-Axel Burow

Olaf-Axel Burow (born July 19, 1951 in Berlin -Charlottenburg) is a German teacher, gestalt pedagogue and professor of general pedagogy .

Life

Burow studied German and educational psychology at the PH Berlin . After the first state examination, he taught at a Neukölln elementary school. After passing the 2nd state examination, Burow got a job as a music, German and English teacher at a comprehensive school in Berlin. From 1984 to 1994 he was an assistant at the Institute for Psychology at the HdK Berlin . After meeting Robert Jungk , Burow experimented with future workshops and completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Berlin in 1992 (subject: On a creative educational theory of changing personal paradigms). In 1994 he was offered a professorship at the University of Gießen and in 1996 he was appointed to the Chair of General Pedagogy at the University of Kassel . Burow worked as a professor at the University of Kassel until March 2017. He is co-founder and member of the Institute for Synergy and Social Innovations as well as director of the IF-Institute for Future Design. He is co-editor of the magazine for educational leadership.

Research priorities

In his research, Burow focuses on creativity research ( theory of creative fields ) and educational personnel and organizational development as well as appreciative school development , in the context of which he developed the theory of "positive pedagogy" and the concept of "appreciative leadership". This also includes art coaching , cultural education and "service learning". Since 2009 he and HGRolff have been running the future workshop "Reduction of stress - how does that work?" At the German Academy for Educational Leadership (DAPF). by. He also focuses on processes of participation , citizen participation and process-oriented future moderation and has developed the future workshop, which goes back to Robert Jungk, into a future design tool for educational institutions and companies. In addition to the further development of theories and methods in educational science, and in particular gestalt pedagogy , the examination of the new media has recently become a further research focus. This is about the question of the future of education in the digital age, the changing formats of teaching and learning as well as the development of future skills. As co-founder and director of the IF - Institute for Future Design (Research & Training), he advises organizations from the non-profit and profit sector on questions relating to future design and leads training courses in future moderation and future designers.
