The Oldenburg is a corvette of the German Navy of the type K130 , also known as the Braunschweig class. She is the fourth unit of this class and the fourth ship named Oldenburg in a German Navy. Predecessors in its name were the wheel corvette Grand Duke of Oldenburg of the Imperial Fleet as well as the armored ship Oldenburg and the large-line ship Oldenburg of the Imperial Navy . In addition, several large Danish orlog ships bore this name. B. Oldenburg , which was commissioned in 1628 .

history

The later Oldenburg was laid on January 16, 2006 at the Hamburg shipyard Blohm + Voss . Her ship was christened with subsequent launch on June 28, 2007.

During test drives of the Oldenburg in the spring of 2009, it was found that the built-in gearboxes had serious defects. This not only affected the Oldenburg , but also all other units in the class. Since mold and condensation were found in the corvette Magdeburg in February 2011 , the Oldenburg went back to the shipyard to repair the damage.

The ship, which is subordinate to the 1st Corvette Squadron, was put into service on January 21, 2013, after several years of delay, in its home port of the Hohe Düne naval base in Rostock.

After the commissioning, the Oldenburg took part in the annual deployment and training association (EAV) until March 17, 2013, visiting the port of Algiers in February .

The ship is a member of the Operations and Training Association (EAV) again in 2014. It will call at thirteen ports in nine countries, which are located between the Arctic Circle and the equator. The Oldenburg started together with the frigates Hamburg (Association flagship), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Augsburg and the task force supplier Frankfurt am Main on February 11th from Wilhelmshaven. Her return is expected on June 20th in Kiel.

Calls

  • On September 10, 2018, the Oldenburg , driven by the Delta crew under the command of Corvette Captain Thorsten Vögler, left its home port to take part in the UNIFIL mission off the coast of Lebanon . On September 23, 2018, she replaced her sister ship, the Corvette Braunschweig, in action in the port of Limassol in Cyprus . A one-year deployment with several crew changes on site is planned. At the end of January 2019, the Delta crew was replaced by the Echo crew under frigate captain Stephan Lukaszyk. After 250 days of deployment with two crews, the Oldenburg was replaced by the corvette Ludwigshafen am Rhein in early June 2019 . On June 15, 2019, the Corvette Oldenburg and her 61-strong crew returned to their home port of Warnemünde after around five months. During her period of use she covered 37,000 nautical miles.
