coat of arms

On the shield in silver there are three green fir trees on three green mountains, on the mountains a golden plow. The head of the shield is red on the right with two black mallets and on the left a golden bell on a blue background.

Trees and mountains symbolize the wooded hill country around Oldenrode, the plow symbolizes agriculture. The mallets go back to the mine in the 14th century and the open and underground mining of brown coal here in the 20th century. The bell should refer to the bell house of "Sankt Alban" in Oldenrode.

Culture and sights

  • Presumably on the foundation walls of the St. Albani Chapel, which is mentioned in an old church account from 1686/87, the bell house was built around 1700 as a shepherd's house. The bell of the St. Albani Chapel, which is said to date from the middle of the 17th century, still hangs in the tower. For a long time the building served as accommodation for the village shepherd, later several families were accommodated here. Since 2002 the house has been used for village events and by the Oldenrode Heimatverein.
