Wiershausen is a district of the municipality Kalefeld in the district of Northeim , Lower Saxony .

The village is located on the western edge of the Harz Mountains northeast of Kalefeld behind the Dögeroder cliffs.

history

A village "Wuringereshusen" is mentioned from 826 to 853 in Rittigau . This is probably today's Wiershausen, which was one of the early medieval settlements in the region.

Wiershausen was incorporated into the municipality of Kalefeld on March 1, 1974.

The coat of arms is a silver shield shared by a black Germanic lance placed on the left. At the transition from the shaft to the lance tip there are two golden ribbons as decoration. Further symbols are a green branch of rose hip with red berries and a green branch of sloe with blue berries. The lance points to the equally decorated lance tip found near the location in the area of ​​the Harzhorn event . The fruits of the wild plants symbolized here, sloes and rose hips, used to help ensure the survival of the population.

The Simon and Jude Church has undergone extensive reconstruction work. It was built from 1879–1881 according to plans by Conrad Wilhelm Hase . In 2007 she got a new organ with three registers. The community belongs to the Harzer Land parish .

Ground monument

Not far northeast of Wiershausen near the B 248 is the Roman battlefield near Kalefeld. The extensive discovery area of ​​a battle is assigned to a dispute between Roman and Germanic warriors in the early 3rd century. The first discoveries were made in 2000 when searching for a medieval castle complex, but its importance and age were only recognized in late 2008 through archaeological excavations.
