Ole Judichær

Ole Judichær (born March 20, 1661 in Vamlingbo , Gotland , † September 29, 1729 in Næstved ) was a Danish admiral and shipbuilding engineer .

Life

Little is known in the historical documents about his youth. In 1683 he first studied theology in Copenhagen and was tutored by the rector of the University of Copenhagen, Ole Rømer , in astronomy, mathematics and geodesy .

From 1692 to 1727 Ole Judichær was director of the state naval shipyard Orlogsværftet . According to his plans, 23 ships of the line and 9 frigates were built during that time . In 1698 he received the title of commander captain ( frigate captain ). He was made admiral during the Great Northern War in 1714 and served as squadron chief and commander of the coastal defense of Zealand (sjællandske kystforsvar).

Ole Judichær was buried in Holmens Kirke . The building was originally the anchor shop for the naval shipyard and is the final resting place for the members of the Danish Navy .
