Oleksandr Ivanovich Musytschko , also Saschko Bilyj , ( Ukrainian Олександр Іванович Музичко ; born September 19, 1962 in Kisel ; † March 24, 2014 in Rivne ) was a leader of the paramilitary "Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian National Self-Defense US" ( UN National Self-Defense ) the right-wing extremist group “ Prawyj Sector ” (Right Sector) in western Ukraine .

Life

Chechnya war

During the First Chechen War he fought on the side of the Chechen separatists. He was the commander of the combat group "Wiking", which consisted of Ukrainian volunteers. Musytschko was also the bodyguard of Chechen President Jokhar Dudayev . For his services he was awarded the title " Hero of the Nation " by the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria .

Since March 7, 2014, the Russian public prosecutor's office has been investigating Musychko in connection with war crimes in Chechnya. On March 11, 2014 , Valery Rashkin, Duma deputy and deputy chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation , called for Musychko to be liquidated .

Ukraine and Euromaidan

In 1995 he was found guilty of grievous bodily harm by a Ukrainian court and convicted. In 2003, a court sentenced him to three and a half years in prison for extortion . In 2012 he ran as a candidate in the Ukrainian parliamentary elections .

After the change of power in Ukraine as a result of the Euromaidan protests in spring 2014, he was significantly involved in some violent attacks, intimidation and arbitrary measures by the “right-wing sector”, especially in the western Ukrainian Rivne Oblast . Musytschko declared that his credo was "to fight against communists, Jews and Russians while there is still blood flowing through my veins".

On February 24, he appeared in combat gear and armed with a Kalashnikov rifle - assault rifle in the regional parliament of the Rivne Oblast during a parliamentary session. He staged himself in front of the camera and ordered the MPs to give apartments to families of Euromaidan demonstrators . He showed his weapons and asked: “Who will take my machine gun away from me? Who will take my gun away from me? Who will take my knives away from me? Do not dare! "

On February 27, in front of the cameras, in the presence of the press and police, he harassed and hit a Rivne District Prosecutor.

On the night of March 24-25, 2014, Musytschko was killed in a police operation in Rivne. According to the Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Volodymyr Evdokymov , he was due to be arrested for “malicious hooliganism and resistance to state power” but fled through a window and opened fire on the police.

His fellow combatants claimed that Musychko was killed on the orders of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and with targeted shots in the heart. Several hundred like-minded people, some of whom were armed with machine guns, took part in Musychko's funeral in Rivne on March 26, 2014. Among other things, they demanded the resignation of Avakov.

On April 2, 2014, the Interior Ministry of Ukraine published an official investigation report into Musychko's death. According to the report, Musychko fired two pistol shots while attempting to arrest him while wrangling with the police. With the first shot he wounded himself slightly, with the second shot he shot himself in the heart. According to the investigation report, the police officers behaved correctly when they intervened against Musychko.

Honors

A stele was erected at Musytschko's place of death, which was devastated by strangers in February 2016.

In the town of Konotop , a street was named after Oleksandr Musychko.
