Oleksandr Valerіjowitsch Ponomarjow ( Ukrainian Олександр Валерійович Пономарьов ; born August 9, 1973 in Khmelnyzkyj , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian singer.

Career

One of Oleksandr's early passions was boxing. However, his eyesight began to deteriorate early on, and his doctor forbade him to fight.

Oleksandr obeyed this medical advice and looked for an alternative career. He had always enjoyed singing, but he never thought that music could become his main occupation. Since he could not read music, he first had to attend a music school. Due to his extraordinary talent for singing, he soon received a scholarship that allowed him to finance his music studies.

Oleksandr has participated in dozens of Ukrainian and international festivals since 1992. In 1998 he was awarded the title "Honored Artist of Ukraine" by the Ukrainian government. In total, he was Ukrainian “Singer of the Year” seven times.

In 2003 Oleksandr took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine with the song "Hasta la Vista" . With 30 points he reached the 14th place.
