Oleschnja ( Ukrainian and Russian Олешня ) is a village founded in 1765 in the north of the Ukrainian Oblast Chernihiv with about 980 inhabitants (2004).
geography
The village is located on the banks of the 21 km long Suchyj Vyr ( Сухий Вир ) river, 24 km north of the Ripky district center and 63 km north of the Oblast capital Chernihiv .
Oleschnja has a train station on the Homel – Chernihiv railway line and is the administrative center of the 89.874 km² district council of the same name in the northeast of Ripky Rajon . The municipality still includes the villages of Hrybowa Rudnja ( Грибова Рудня ) and Oleksandriwka ( Олександрівка ) and Sawodske ( Заводське ).
Personalities
The Ukrainian pedagogue, social and educational activist, writer, historian, anthropologist, art historian, literary critic and founder of the Ukrainian women's movement Sofija Rusowa (1856–1940) was born in the village .
