Olga Alifiravets (born June 8, 1987 in Nawapolazk , Belarus ) is a Swedish biathlete who competes for Belarus until 2008 and for Sweden since 2015.
Career
Beginnings (1995 to 2008)
Olga Alifiravets has been practicing biathlon since 1995. She competed in her first international race in the European Junior Cup in winter 2004/05. In March 2005 she won the bronze medal at the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2005 in Kontiolahti, Finland . She reached her first podium in the junior sprint of the European Cup 2007/08 when she won the sprint race in Geilo . Several podium finishes followed in Brezno , Turin and Valromey . She won the Junior Sprint, Pursuit, and Overall Juniors that winter.
Change of nation (2008 to 2015)
After the end of the 2007/08 season, Alifiravets married and ended her active career as a biathlete for the time being. Shortly afterwards she emigrated to Sweden with her husband and had a child.
Some time later, she took part in amateur biathlon races in Sweden again and, after obtaining Swedish citizenship, was accepted into the national team.
New start for Sweden (since 2015)
From the 2015/16 season she started for Sweden in the IBU Cup and took part in the competitions in Idre , Nové Město na Moravě and Ridnaun, as well as the 2016 European Biathlon Championships in Tyumen . In the following year she was able to build on her old successes for the first time in Kontiolahti. With a third place in the individual race she reached her first podium place in the IBU Cup, after a 24th place in the sprint she improved to 4th place in the pursuit race and just missed her second podium placement. Two more top 10 placements in Otepää followed . She was nominated for the World Cup finals in Oslo , in her first World Cup race she failed to qualify for the pursuit race as well as the points clearly as 85th of the sprint.
