Malvina Olga Resnevič Signorelli (born August 8, 1883 in Jaunsvirlaukas near Jelgava in Latvia , Russian Empire , † December 17, 1973 in Rome ) was an Italian writer and translator from Russian .

Life

Malvina Olga Resnevič, daughter of Adolfo Resnais, studied medicine in Bern , from 1904 in Siena and from 1906 in Rome , where she completed her studies in 1908. With the doctor Angelo Signorelli (1878–1952) she had three daughters, Maria, Elena and Vera. Without being married to him, she took his name, which she kept after the separation.

She became friends with the feminist Sibilla Aleramo . She worked as a pediatrician in a hospital in via Morosini.

Signorelli had literary interests and wrote with Giuseppe Ungaretti and Scipio Slataper in the magazine La Voce . Since the First World War she has been working increasingly literary and worked as a translator with the Slavist Ettore Lo Gatto . She translated u. a. Works and letters by Lev Tolstoy , Chekhov , Sergei Jessenin and Dostojewski in Italian. She was friends with Vyacheslav Ivanov , who emigrated to Italy in 1924 , and exchanged letters with the writer and editor of La Voce Giovanni Papini .

Signorelli became friends with the actress Eleonora Duse in 1915 . She has published various editions of her correspondence and biographical texts about La Duse , and in 1938 another biography.

She collected contemporary art, and among her painter friends were Virgilio Guidi , Filippo de Pisis and Ferruccio Ferrazzi . She was also friends with the dancer Aurel von Milloss .
