Olga Zimmelova

Olga Zimmelova (born February 1, 1945 in Majdalena , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech-Swiss painter , draftsman and sculptor .

Life

Olga Zimmelova was born in the last days of the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. After attending grammar school in Tábor , she studied Russian and drawing at the Pedagogical University in Budweis . After the end of the Prague Spring in 1968, she emigrated to Switzerland. There she attended the School of Design in Lucerne and also took a guest semester at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan . In 1974 she married the sculptor Andreas Gehr , they have two daughters and are divorced.

In 1980 she received a federal art scholarship and in 1982 a two-year scholarship for a stay at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome . She stayed in Italy, worked at Ventotene and from 1987 in Bosa in Sardinia . In 1997 she returned to Switzerland and until 2006 ran a studio in the “Werkverein Bildzwang” in Lucerne . Zimmelova lives in Basel .

Zimmelova works as a painter, draftsman and sculptor, she produces installation art , film and video art .
