The Oligoclada stenoptera is one of the 24 dragonfly species of the genus Oligoclada from the subfamily Brachydiplacinae . The species has its main distribution along the Amazon and its foothills.

Construction of the Imago

In Oligoclada stenoptera, the abdomen measures between 15.9 and 17.0 millimeters. It is metallic black, with the first three segments slightly red-brown in color. The thorax of the males is metallic blue black with a reddish brown tinge. The thigh ( femur ) of the legs is covered with more than 24 thorns. While the labium and the upper lip ( labrum ) are yellowish, the adjoining frontal plate ( clypeus ) is yellowish green. The occiput is brown-black. The hind wings measure between 18.8 and 19.6 millimeters. The wing mark ( pterostigma ) reaches 1.7 to 2.4 millimeters. The number of antenodal veins is seven to nine in the front wing and six to seven in the hind wing. The last antenodal loader in the front wing is complete, so it extends from the Costa loader to the radial artery . There are six to nine and six to eight post-nodal veins. The base of the hind wings is narrowed.

Research history

The species was first described in 1931 by Donald Joyce Borror . With the name stenoptera , Borror refers to the narrowed base of the hind wings.
