Dolichothele diamantinensis ( Syn .: Oligoxystre diamantinensis ) species of spider from the genus Dolichothele withinthe tarantula family (Theraphosidae). It was only discovered in 2009 near the town of Diamantina in Minas Gerais , Brazil and named after this town. It may be endemic to this area. features

Dolichothele diamantinensis , female ( paratype )

The animals have a blue basic color and have metallic blue bristles on the carapace, on the biting claws, on the opisthosoma and on the upper and lower sides of the legs. There are longer red hairs on the opisthosoma. The blue coloration was also retained in specimens that were placed in alcohol for scientific purposes. This indicates a structural and not just a pigmented color that would otherwise fade in alcohol.

Compared to other tarantula species, Dolichothele diamantinensis are medium-sized tarantulas. The male (holotype) is 2.55 centimeters long from the bite claws to the spinnerets. The opisthosoma has a length of 1.12 centimeters. The legs are between 3.0 and 3.8 inches long. The female (paratype) is a little larger and has a total length of 3.76 centimeters of which 1.98 centimeters make up the opisthosoma. The length of the female's legs varies between 2.5 and 3.3 centimeters.
