Oliver Geden
Oliver Geden (* 1971 in Bernkastel-Kues ) is a German social scientist and political advisor specializing in climate and energy . He has been with the Science and Politics Foundation (SWP) in Berlin since 2006 , currently head of the EU / Europe research group.
Life
After training as an industrial clerk and civil service at the Federal Environment and Nature Conservation of Rhineland-Palatinate, he studied European ethnology , political science and gender studies . In 2005 he was at Wolfgang Kaschuba and Frank Decker at the Humboldt University of Berlin with a thesis on "discourse strategies in the right-wing populism" to Dr. phil. PhD.
His work focuses on questions of energy and climate policy of the European Union , CO 2 extraction from the atmosphere , governance of solar radiation management and the quality of scientific policy advice. He is also a permanent fellow at the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society at Oxford University (since 2017) and at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna (since 2019).
Geden was visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley (2005/6), the ETH Zurich (2014), the University of Oxford (2017), the University of Pennsylvania (2018) and at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology . In 2011 he was seconded to the planning staff of the Federal Foreign Office and in 2014/15 to the management and planning department of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy .
In 2018, Geden was appointed lead author for the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), which will appear in 2021, by the IPCC .
