Frank Decker (* 1964 in Montabaur ) is a German political scientist .

Career

Decker comes from Montabaur in the Westerwald . He studied political science , economics , journalism and public law at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of Hamburg . In 1989 he completed his studies as a qualified political scientist and then worked until 2001 as a research assistant, assistant and senior assistant at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. During this time he received his doctorate in 1993 (Dr. rer. Pol.) And finally his habilitation in 1999 , accompanied by Jürgen Hartmann in the Department of Economics and Organizational Sciences. Decker then became a private lecturer in political science there.

Since 2001, Decker Professor at the Institute of Political Science and Sociology of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn . From 2002 to 2011 he was managing director of the institute. In 2007 he became a member of the scientific advisory board of the Progressive Center and in 2011, together with Volker Kronenberg, scientific director of the Bonn Academy for Research and Teaching of Practical Politics, founded by Bodo Hombach .

His current research interests are Western systems of government , political parties , populism , federalism, and democracy reform . Decker is often invited to attend television and radio shows on current political issues.

Political commitment

Decker is a longstanding member of the SPD and a member of the party's basic values ​​committee . As part of the European elections in 2014 for the European Parliament, he advertised the then top candidate Martin Schulz as the first signatory of an appeal for supporters on the Internet and in newspaper advertisements .
