Oliver Kuster

Oliver "Oli" Kuster (born December 14, 1968 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz pianist and composer.

life and work

Kuster learned to play the piano from the age of seven; After an apprenticeship as an electronics technician , he attended the Bern Jazz School and the Freiburg Jazz and Rock School . He studied at the New School in New York with George Cables , Geri Allen , Michele Rosewoman and Fred Hersch and graduated from the Lucerne Jazz School in 1995, where he then worked as a teacher.

The musician, who lives in Bern, has realized various projects in the area of ​​tension between jazz and electro and in 2014 presented his first classical compositions with “Parts and Pieces”. First he recorded his album The Music of Herbie Nicols with Jürg Bucher . From 2001 to 2004 he was a member of Züri West . In 2004 he founded the electro-pop duo "Pola" with Marcel Blatti . With his combo “Menschmaschine”, Kuster delivered jazz interpretations of “ Kraftwerk ” songs in 2011. He also composed for the film and for his “Oli Kuster Kombo”, with which he released two albums. He can also be heard on the album X99 with the trio of Gilbert Paeffgen .

In 2015 Oliver Kuster and Patric Marino created a kind of electro poetry as “Die Astronauten” . His work with synthesizers also comes into play in the pop project AEIOU . In his latest OKRA project, he works with Robert Aeberhard .
