Omar Ba

Omar Ba (born April 8, 1972 in Pikine ) is a retired Senegalese basketball player . Ba has also had German citizenship since 2003 .

biography

Ba was born the son of a school principal in Senegal. In 1996 he emigrated to Germany , originally to study political science there. In 2007, he was the target of racial threats that led to unsuccessful investigations into sedition and property damage.

Club career

After Omar Ba was promoted to the 2nd basketball league with TSV Lesum in 2001 , Ba played for league rivals RW Cuxhaven and in France, among others . For the 2004/05 season , Ba, who had also acquired German citizenship in 2003, returned to Bremen and played for the Lesum successor club Bremen Roosters for two seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga. Together with the then Bremen football professional and hobby basketball player Patrick Owomoyela , Ba was awarded the Udo Lindenberg Prize in November 2006 for her commitment to combating xenophobia. Ba was then active for SG Oslebshausen , Vegesacker TV and BTS Neustadt until 2013.

National team

With the Senegalese national team Omar Ba took part in the 1998 World Cup, in which the only African tournament team finished 15th and penultimate place.
