Omari Akil Newton (* before 1990 in Montreal ) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his portrayals of Larry Summers in Blue Mountain State and Lucas Ingram in Continuum .

Career

Newton grew up in Montreal. His parents were immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago . He has a twin sister named Akilah Newton. In the 1990s, Newton attended Beaconsfield High School . Newton was co-captain of the school's basketball team and started the local football team. He also attended drama clubs. To become a professional actor, Newton took acting classes at Concordia University . There he also obtained his bachelor's degree in communication science. In addition, Newton attended the National Theater School of Canada . When Newton was 19 years old he was hired by the Black Theater Workshop and starred in one of their productions. He worked in the theater scene in Montreal for a few years before he moved to Vancouver . There, too, he often appeared in plays. He has appeared in Romeo and Juliet , a production by the Mad Duck Theater Collective, and Orestie at Christ Church Cathedral, among others. In 2001, Newton auditioned for the role of Dalton Nemers in the vampire series Vampire High and was cast directly. Newton later said he really enjoyed his time on the set. He also thought it was great that his character was crucial for the character development of one of the "main vampires". It was Newton's first role in a television series and his biggest role in film and television to date. Before that, he had only played mini-roles with a few words in television films. From 2010 to 2011 Newton played Larry Summers in Blue Mountain State . This television series revolves around a fictional university and its football team. It was Newton's first major supporting role in a television series. From 2012 to 2015 Newton played the lead role of Lucas Ingram in Continuum .
