The omen was in the years 1988 to 1998 the first discos of Techno - and House scene. The club was located on the ground floor of a now demolished multi-storey car park on Junghofstrasse in downtown Frankfurt am Main near the main guard station .

The club is one of the most important birthplaces of techno in Germany. The Omen emerged in 1988 from Club Vogue . Under the leadership of the trio Sven Väth , Michael Münzing and Matthias Martinsohn, the club developed into one of the centers of the global techno scene in the following ten years.

Music and DJs

DJ greats like Sven Väth , who was also a co-owner of the Omen, Carl Cox , Frank Lorber , Toni Rios , Gayle San , DJ Dag , Chris Liebing , Ulli Brenner , Jeff Mills and many others often played in the Omen until late noon .

closure

After the “farewell weekend”, the Omen was closed on October 19, 1998. The last track played was " Astral Pilot - The Day after" . There were a total of three closing parties: on Monday, on Wednesday and then the very last one from Friday to Monday morning. The rush of visitors on Sunday was so great that the organizers put loudspeakers in the street where several hundred people were dancing. The police did not intervene, but closed Junghofstrasse completely to through traffic for several hours.

Succession

Since the parking garage building was closed and demolished, the so-called Omen Memorial Day (1999-2004) and the Omenforum Technoclassics (2005-2008) have taken place every year in October .

The former operators Sven Väth and Matthias Martinsohn founded the Cocoon Club in 2004 and were guests at U60311 once a month until it opened .
