Atik (also Al Atik , from Arabic العاتق, DMG al-ʿātiq 'the shoulder') is the proper name of the star ο Persei ( omicron Persei) in the constellation Perseus .
Atik is a spectroscopic binary star . The lighter component belongs to the spectral class B1 III and has an apparent brightness of +3.9 m . The second component with a brightness of +6.7 m has the spectral class B2 V and is therefore still a main sequence star . The system is about 1100 light years from the sun . The two stars orbit each other closely with an orbital period of only 4.4 days .
Use in pop culture
In the animated series Futurama , Omicron Persei 8 is the homeworld of the Omicronians, a race of giant reptiles under their ruler, the choleric Emperor Lrrr.
