On Fire is the second studio album by the American band Galaxie 500 . It was released on Rough Trade in1989after it was recorded at Noise NY studio in New York City .
The producer Marc Kramer plays the organ on the track “Isn't it a Pity”, the musician Ralph Carney plays the tenor saxophone on “Decomposing Trees” .
reception
Since the album was released, the album's reception has been generally positive. So it was ranked # 16 on Pitchfork's list of the 100 best albums of the 80s . The online music magazine also gave the album a rare top grade of 10.0 / 10.0. Mark Richardson wrote on the occasion of this award in a review on March 30, 2010:
“It may sound monotonous, but On Fire's rigid focus is one of the album's strengths. It feels penetrating, the rock album as an ambient album and it's the definitive slowcore statement. "
Re-releases
The album was re-released in 1997 by Rykodisc . It was remastered in 1996 and included the Red Crayola Cover Victory Garden , the New Order Cover Ceremony and the original song Cold Night as bonus tracks . As an added bonus, the music video for "When Will You Come Home" (1988, directed by Sergio Hudor) has also been added.
In 2010 the album was re-released again. In addition to the 1997 bonus tracks, it contained the band's peel sessions on a separate CD.
