This Is Our Music is the third and final studio album by the American dream pop trio Galaxie 500 . It was released on Rough Trade in1990.

The title refers to an album of the same name by jazz musician Ornette Coleman .

reception

Since the album was released, the reception of the album has been quite positive; but not quite as good as its predecessor On Fire .

At Allmusic the album gets four and a half out of five points.

On the occasion of the rerelease of the Galaxie 500 discography, Pitchfork Media rated it 8.3 out of 10 points, the worst of the band's three albums. It is criticized that the album - besides some highlights - also contains some "filler material":

"This Is Our Music", from 1990, has a few of Galaxie 500's best tunes and it also has the richest production, with greater focus on keyboards and layered guitars. [...] But despite its high points, This Is Our Music also has a few duds, which are the only easy skips on the band's proper records "

Re-releases

The album was re-released in 1997 by Rykodisc . The bonus track is the Velvet Underground cover Here She Comes Now and the music video of Fourth of July .

In 2010 the album was re-released again. It also contained the 1997 live album Copenhagen on an extra CD ; a recording of the last European tour in December 1990.
