Online spreadsheet

As online spreadsheet to spreadsheet applications referred to without separate installation in a web browser can run. They usually have a much smaller range of functions than comparable office applications such as Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc , but make use of the properties of the World Wide Web . Online spreadsheets can be used from almost any computer connected to the World Wide Web. Well-known representatives are the XUL application AjaxXLS by Michael Robertson , the founder of MP3.com , and Google Drive .

• EtherCalc is a service based on the open source software of the same name. In terms of online spreadsheets, the project is similar to that of EtherPad for collaborative writing of texts.

• Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms is free and easy to use. It saves automatically, but has a limited range of functions. Asusualwith Google , thesoftware goes througha long beta phase and is continuously developed. A Google account is required to use it.

• LibreOffice Online Calc

• ThinkFree Office , the office suite from the US ThinkFree Corp. , has almost the same range of functions as Microsoft Office including printing, preview and spell checking. The ThinkFree programs are based on the Java platform and require a corresponding browser plug-in . In addition to the online service , ThinkFree also offers the software as a downloadable server edition.

• Worksheet server from the German Jedox AG generates independent, multi-user web applications from Microsoft Excel workbooks. All common table functions, cell formatting and the most important Excel chart types are supported. Optionally, an integrated ETL interface can be used to access relational and multidimensional databases ( MOLAP ), SAP servers and LDAP servers.
