Jedox is a cloud- based enterprise performance management software for creating performance management solutions for planning, analysis and reporting. The central component is a cell-oriented, multidimensional in-memory OLAP server, which was specially developed for budgeting and forecasting, as well as for data consolidation. The software is based on a modular SaaS platform. It uses Microsoft Excel as the user interface and Jedox's own spreadsheet , both browser-independent. Jedox is developed by the software company of the same name, Jedox AG from Freiburg im Breisgau .

Areas of application and distribution

Jedox was specially developed for tasks in planning, analysis and reporting and data consolidation and can be used across industries and departments. The basic principle of the software is that Jedox extracts the necessary operational data from the upstream systems, brings them into analysis-ready form and makes them available to various user groups in needs-based evaluations or access options via various user-friendly front ends .

The specialty of the software is that not only backward-oriented business intelligence applications, e.g. B. OLAP analyzes and reporting are covered, but also performance management solutions, such as what-if analyzes , demand planning, simulations, budgeting, financial planning and balanced scorecards can be created.

Jedox is used in around 120 countries and is delivered in 23 languages. Companies that have built performance management solutions with Jedox include: a. the Süddeutsche Verlag , Metro Group , Endress + Hauser and Swissport .

Components

In-memory database

Jedox's in-memory database is a memory-based, multidimensional real-time OLAP server ( MOLAP ) for managing business or statistical databases ( multidimensional database ). In addition to the multi-dimensional query data can also be written back (write back) and consolidated in real time. The server keeps all data in the main memory to enable fast data access. Via APIs in Java, PHP, C / C ++ or. NET, the Jedox OLAP database can be integrated into other software environments.

Excel add-in

A Microsoft Excel add-in component carries out the communication between the Jedox OLAP database and the Excel frontend. Any number of Excel workstations can be linked online, all of which access a central database ( single point of truth ). The data written in Microsoft Excel is written back to the OLAP cube structure via the add-in and aggregated. By using the well-known Excel interface, business users without IT knowledge can work independently with Jedox and carry out planning, analysis and reports.

Web client

Via the Jedox web client, users can access the centrally stored data in the OLAP database from a web browser . Reports created locally are transformed into server-based web applications and called up and adapted in the web browser. Analysis results and modifications of existing reports can also be written back consistently to the database in web mode. Analysis and calculation models with Excel are made available to multiple users via the web browser without the need to install Microsoft Excel. Users therefore access the OLAP database with their web browser even with mobile devices.

GPU module

The optional GPU module from Jedox uses the computing power and main memory of Tesla graphics processors to analyze company data. Complex OLAP calculations are accelerated many times over by the additional GPU component compared to an Intel multicore architecture, whereby the acceleration factor depends on the respective data model. The GPU module, developed in cooperation with the University of Freiburg and the University of Western Australia Perth , is mainly used in multidimensional data analyzes. The GPU component is switched on on the server side. Except for the graphics card, it does not require any additional hardware installation.

Integrator

Jedox ETL is a client-server-based application for automated data import, which extracts data from heterogeneous sources, transforms it and uploads it to the Jedox OLAP server. The ETL component works with all common relational database systems , such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server , MySQL and PostgreSQL , and links them via a JDBC interface. Users can also extract additional data from flat files, XML files, web services and LDAP systems. Jedox ETL can be integrated into other software applications through a SOAP -based web service interface. In addition to data import into Jedox, the ETL module also supports "drill through" from the OLAP database to the document data in the source systems.

SAP interface

The Jedox SAP Connector, an ETL module specially tailored to SAP landscapes , acts as an additional interface . The component supports all SAP Netweaver based SAP systems, such as SAP-R / 3 , SAP-ERP and SAP Business Warehouse (BW). As a result, Business Intelligence and Performance Management solutions from Jedox are integrated into existing SAP systems.

Mobile use

Jedox offers two options so that users can also access the central OLAP database and functionalities of the software on mobile devices: On the one hand, users can access existing reports via the touch-optimized Jedox web server and these can be accessed via gesture and finger control on smartphones and customize tablet PCs. The manufacturer also offers a native mobile app for iOS and Android operating systems. All data can also be written back to the Jedox OLAP database using mobile devices.

Jedox models

With the release of the Jedox 7 software version, users have access to "Jedox models". These are pre-configured applications for profit and loss account , cost center , personnel costs and sales, u. a. be delivered with databases, reports and input masks, business logic and workflow processes.

License packages

The company sells its software suite in a rental model. Customers can choose between a cloud-based service from the IaaS provider Microsoft Azure or an on-premises model. Jedox also offers a 14-day cloud trial version.
