Onno Frederik Godenoul Elderenbosch is a Dutch diplomat .

education

Elderenbosch attended a grammar school in Amersfoort before moving to the University of Utrecht , where he studied law. He completed his law studies in 1976. He studied for another year at the Institut Européen des Hautes Etudes Internationales at the University of Nice .

Entry into the diplomatic service

From 1996 to 2000 he was deputy ambassador to Kiev , from 2000 to 2005 deputy head of the political department of the Dutch representation in Moscow. In September 2005 he began his service as ambassador for his home country in Georgia . Until May 2009 he represented the Netherlands in Tbilisi . He also represented the interests of the Netherlands in Armenia from Tbilisi .

Attack in Moscow

While Elderenbosch was the Netherlands' deputy ambassador to Moscow , he was attacked, handcuffed and ill-treated by strangers in his home on October 15, 2013. The attackers also ravaged the apartment and left behind a lipstick- painted lettering “ LGBT ”. The Netherlands then called in the Russian ambassador in The Hague . At the time of the attack, relations between Moscow and The Hague were already strained. For example, the Netherlands set for the release of the crew of sailing under the Dutch flag Greenpeace -Schiffes Arctic Sunrise and a Russian diplomat was recently in violation of the diplomatic immunity have been arrested by mistake in the Netherlands.

He held his position in Moscow until 2014 before moving to the representation of the Netherlands at the European Council.
