Oona Tamsyn King, Baroness King of Bow (born October 22, 1967 in Sheffield ) is a British Labor Party politician who was a member of the House of Commons between 1997 and 2005 and has been a Life Peeress member of the House of Lords since 2011 .

Life

Professional activities and MPs

After attending the Haverstock School and studying at the University of York , which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1990, Oona King was a research fellow with the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and between 1990 and 1991 then until 1993 political assistant to MEP Glyn Ford . During this time she was on John Smith's campaign team in the April 9, 1992 general election and was a freelance speechwriter between 1993 and 1994 before working as political assistant to MEP Glenys Kinnock from 1994 to 1995 . After losing the election and leaving the House of Commons, Oona King worked at 10 Downing Street as Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Gordon Brown from 2007 to 2009 and has been Diversity Manager at Channel 4 since 2009 . In early September 2010 she announced that she would run for Labor for the office of Mayor of London in the Mayor elections on May 3, 2012. In the internal party nomination election on September 24, 2012, however, she was clearly defeated by the former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone , who received 68.8 percent of the delegate's votes.

By a letters patent dated January 26, 2011 Oona King was raised to the nobility as a life peeress with the title Baroness King of Bow , of Bow in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets .
