Ophrys Gortynia German also Gortyn orchid called, is a kind of genre Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) in the family of orchid plants (Orchidaceae). Synonyms are: Ophrys sphegodes subsp. gortynia H. Baumann & Künkele and Ophrys mammosa subsp. gortynia (H. Baumann & Künkele) H. Baumann & R. Lorenz .
features
Ophrys gortynia is a perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of 15 and 35 centimeters. The plant has 3 to 6 flowers. The lip measures 9 to 13 (rarely from 8) × 9 to 14 millimeters. It is dark brown to blackish purple, obverse-shaped and wedge-shaped at the base. The lateral petals are 2.5 to 4 millimeters wide.
The flowering period extends from April to May.
Occurrence
Ophrys gortynia occurs in Crete, Milos , Naxos , Paros , Siros and Tinos . It grows in the Phrygana , in bushes, grasslands and fallow land at altitudes from 0 to 600 meters above sea level.
