Orlando Poleo

Orlando José Poleo (born December 13, 1962 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan percussionist and band leader. He is best known as a conga and bongo player in Latin American music (especially salsa ), jazz and pop music .

Live and act

Poleo had his first lessons with Julio Mendez . He then studied Afro-Venezuelan percussion with Miguel Urbina . At the age of fifteen he became a conga player in the Sabañón Orchestra , and two years later he founded his first group, Autana . He also performed alongside Nano Grand with the Orquesta Epa and founded the group Adrenalina Caribe with Evio Di Marzo . He also took lessons from the Puerto Rican musicians Cachete Maldonado , Giovanni Hidalgo and Antony Carrilo and in 1987 studied Afro-Cuban percussion at the Ignacio Cervantes music school in Havana.

In 1991 he was invited to Paris, where he performed with musicians such as Tito Puente , Chocolate , Alfredo Rodríguez , Azuquita , Eddie Palmieri , Arturo Sandoval , Mongo Santamaría , Kip Hanrahan , Archie Shepp and Chico Freeman . With the singer Danny Brillant he went on a concert tour through France. In 1995 Poleo's first solo album "Cimarraneando" was released , the title of which he composed and arranged with Orlando Maraca Valle .

In 1996 Poleo founded the salsa band Chaworo in Paris , which the singer Carlos Esposito joined. He took with the orchestra a. a. participated in the Jazz Festival in Marciac and performed with the singer Bernard Lavilliers in Spa and Nimes. In 1998 his second solo album El Buen Camino was released . At the Swing Festival in Deauville in 1999 he played with Joe Cocker and Joan Baez , and in 2000 he appeared at the Millennium Celebration in France. In the same year he was a guest at the Abidjan Jazz Festival and at the first jazz festival that took place in Tahiti; In 2003 his third album Lo Bueno De La Vida was released . In 2004 he gave a concert with the Saúl Veras orchestra and the saxophonist Rodolfo Reyes .
