Orly Levy-Abekasis ( Hebrew אורלי לוי; * November 11, 1973 in Bet She'an ) is an Israeli politician. She was a member of the Knesset from 2009 to April 2019 and has been a member of the Knesset again since the parliamentary elections in Israel in September 2019 , initially as a member of the Jisra'el Beitenu party , from May 2016 as a non-party member, and since October 2019 as a member of the Avoda - Gescher electoral alliance .

Life

Orly Levy-Abekasis is the daughter of former Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy . She completed her military service in the Israeli Air Force and later earned a law degree. Before going into politics, she worked as a model and TV presenter.

Levy-Abekasis is married with four children and lives on the Mesilot kibbutz , which is part of the Emek ha-Ma'ajanot regional administration .

Political career

After the parliamentary elections in 2009 , in which she was sixth for Jisra'el Beitenu, Orly Levy-Abekasis moved into the Knesset. In May 2016, during the negotiations between Yisrael Beitenu and Likud , Levy-Abekasis announced her withdrawal from the Yisrael Beitenu party because socio-economic issues were not taken into account in the party's main demands during the negotiations. After that she was an independent MP. On March 6, 2018, Orly Levy-Abekasis announced the formation of a new party. On December 25, 2018, Levy-Abekasis announced the formation of the party called Gescher . In the parliamentary elections in Israel in April 2019 , Gescher remained under the threshold clause and Levy-Abekasis left the Knesset. For the parliamentary elections in Israel in September 2019 , Gescher formed an alliance with the Avoda and Levy-Abekasis moved back into the Knesset.

In the Benjamin Netanyahu V cabinet , which was formed in May 2020, she took over the management of the Ministry of Regional Development .
