Gescher ( Hebrew גֶּשֶׁר, German: "Bridge") is an Israeli party .
history
On March 6, 2018, Orly Levy-Abekasis announced the formation of a new party. On December 25, 2018, the party was founded for the April 2019 parliamentary elections in Israel . The founders of the party included: Jehuda Lankri , Kobi Os (Hebrew: קובי אוז), Channa Asulai Hasfari (Hebrew: חנה אזולאי-הַברי), Dudu Awat , Gilad Samma (Hebrew: גלעד סממהrä.), Meraw יebיַבB אלוש לבָּרוֹן) and Lilach Schem Tow (Hebrew: לִילָךְ שם טוב).
The party tried to put itself on a joint electoral list with Benny Gantz ' Chosen LeJisra'el , but after failed negotiations declared that it would run alone in the April 2019 election. In the election, the party failed with 74,701 votes (1.73% of the votes cast) because of the 3.25 percent threshold.
With a view to the Knesset election in September 2019 , the Gescher party announced on July 18, 2019 that it would run together with the Avoda party . The alliance received 4.8% of the vote and entered the Knesset with 6 seats; one seat of it was given to Gescher.
For the 2020 Knesset election , Gescher teamed up with Awoda and Meretz . The alliance received 5.84% of the vote and 7 seats in the Knesset; one seat of it was given to Gescher.
Naming
The name refers to the Gescher party , which existed from 1996 to 2003 and was founded by Orly's father David Levy and was a split from Likud .
Political orientation
The political orientation of the party is described as “rather center-right” to center-left.
Gescher supports talks with the Palestinian Authority on final status, but calls for Israel to maintain larger settlement blocs in the West Bank and for Israel to be recognized by the Palestinians as the national homeland of the Jewish people.
In terms of social policy, Gescher calls for a reduction in the wage gap between men and women and the gap between the Jewish and Arab populations. Social spending is to be increased. Gescher wants state-funded education for children up to 3 years of age and the restoration of Israeli social housing programs.
