Orostachys spinosa is a cushion-forming, perennial plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The rosette reaches a diameter of 4 to 8 centimeters. The winter leaves are spatulate, scaly, more or less flat and slightly succulent. They form a firm bud that survives above ground. The summer leaves are lanceolate, pointed, strongly succulent, splaying and have an elliptical-round diameter. The inflorescence is dense and resembles an ear. The flowers are light yellow in color.

Flowering time is from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

Orostachys spinosa occurs in warm temperate to cool Siberia , Mongolia , North and Northeast China , the Aralocaspic region and Eastern Europe on rock corridors, river gravel, in rock bushes as well as on grass and meadow steppes .

Orostachys spinosa is used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens , dry stone walls and trough gardens.
