Ortwin Meier

Ortwin Meier (born July 1, 1881 in Bremen ; † May 26, 1941 ) was a German numismatist .

life and work

Ortwin Meier worked at the Provincial Museum in Hanover from 1909 to 1929 and there, in addition to his work as a secretary (most recently in the rank of regional chief inspector), head of the coin cabinet from 1911. He was self-taught in the field of numismatics. In 1936 he was appointed representative of the provincial administration for coin research in Lower Saxony.

He conducted research on coins and medals in northern Germany , especially in Lower Saxony from the Middle Ages to the early modern period, and published numerous articles on this. He wrote about essays on the Brakteatenfund of Bokel or Hohlpfennig Fund of Wistedt , on mints such as the Mundsburg of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hildesheim or biographical such as the medal Heinrich Friedrich Brehmer .
