Oruç Reis (also MTA Oruç Reis ) is a Turkish research vessel . It is operated by the Turkish State Directorate for Research and Raw Materials ( Maden Tetkik ve Arama Genel Müdürlüğü , MTA).

history

The ship was designed as project SRV87 (SRV stands for "Seismic Research Vessel", the number refers to the length of the ship) by SEFT Design & Engineering in Pendik , Istanbul. and under construction number NB 31 at the Istanbul Denizcilik Gemi Insa San. ve Tic shipyard . built in Tuzla , Istanbul . The keel was laid on June 17, 2013, the launch on March 28, 2015; it was completed on March 15, 2017.

It was commissioned in 2017 as the second resource exploration ship in Turkey after the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasa , which was taken over from a Norwegian owner in 2013 , and was put into service as MTA Turkuaz . The ship is named after the Ottoman corsair Oruç Reis .

The ship is part of the resource conflict in the Mediterranean between Turkey, Greece , the EU and other embarkationists.

The ship is diesel-electric powered by two propeller nacelles, each with an output of 2400 kW. For electricity generation, four of ABC - diesel engines of the type 12VDZC1000166A driven Cummins generators of the type DSG 114 M2-6W available. The power of the diesel engines is 2520 kW each.

It has hydrographic, geological, geophysical and oceanographic measuring instruments for the exploration of oil and gas deposits in the seabed . The facilities on board allow explorations to a water depth of 15 km. The ship can stay at sea for up to 35 days. There is space for 55 people on board, who can be accommodated in 15 single and 20 double cabins. The crew is 20 people. Home port is Istanbul .
