features
Oryzias timorensis is a relatively small rice fish and reaches a standard length of 3 to 3.5 cm. The body is covered with cycloid scales and flattened on the sides. The body height is 21 to 24% of the standard length, the head length 27 to 30% of the standard length. The mouth is terminal with jaws of equal length or a slightly protruding lower jaw. The small to medium-sized eyes extend to the top of the head. The caudal fin is spade-shaped, the dorsal fin is relatively far forward. The males can be distinguished from the females by their filamentously elongated dorsal and anal fin rays.
Oryzias timorensis has a translucent body with some vertical, dark brown to black bands on the sides of the body, an indistinct black line from the top of the head to the beginning of the dorsal fin, a black line on the middle of the sides of the body from the head to the caudal fin base, where it turns into a black one Spot ends, and a faint black line along the base of the anal fin. The gill cover is silvery. The peritoneum of the females is more rectangular, that of the males smaller, roughly triangular and silvery.
