Òscar Cadiach

Òscar Cadiach i Puig (* 1952 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan mountaineer . He is one of the few people who have climbed all 14 mountains with an altitude of over 8000 meters .

Life

Born in Barcelona in 1952, Cadiach grew up in Tarragona . He started mountaineering at the age of 14 and at the age of 22 he worked as an instructor at the Escola Catalana d'Alta Muntanya ('Catalan High Mountain School').

In the 1980s he began climbing the eight-thousanders and was the first to climb Nanga Parbat in 1984 . In 1985 he climbed Mount Everest , with Cadiach being the first mountaineer to "freely" master the technically very difficult second step . In the years prior to the successful ascent of Broad Peak , he had tried several times to climb this mountain. Already in 1992 he had climbed with Enric Dalmau, Lluis Ráfols and Alberto Soncini from the Shaksgam Valley to the 8,011 m high Broad Peak Central .

In addition to his ascents in Asia, Cadiach also traveled to America and Africa. He also works as a photographer and has been involved in the making of several documentaries. In the documentary Al Filo de lo Imposible , he took on the role of George Mallory . For the television show El Cim on TV3, he climbed the 6961 m high Aconcagua with six inexperienced mountaineers in 2003 .

  4. Cho Oyu (8188 m) on September 29, 1996, second ascent on May 4, 1997
  5. Makalu (8485 m) on May 19, 1998
  6. Gasherbrum II (8034 m) on July 7, 1999
  7. Lhotse (8516 m) on May 23, 2001
  8. Manaslu (8163 m) on October 4th, 2011
  9. Annapurna I (8091 m) on May 6, 2012
  10. Dhaulagiri (8167 m) on May 25, 2012
  11. K2 (8611 m) on July 31, 2012
  12. Kangchenjunga (8586 m) on May 20, 2013
