Oskar Cisek

Oscar Walter Cisek (born December 6, 1897 in Bucharest ; † May 30, 1966 there ) was a German-speaking Romanian - German writer and diplomat. He wrote short stories, novels, poems and essays.

Life

After attending the German Evangelical School in Bucharest, Cisek studied German and art history in Munich . From 1923 he worked in Bucharest as an art critic for Romanian magazines. From 1930 he was in the diplomatic service of the Romanian monarchy and until 1940 as press and cultural council in Vienna , Prague , Berlin and in 1946/47 as consul general in Bern .

After the fall of the monarchy, he went to prison, was rehabilitated and lived as a writer in Bucharest. Shortly before his death, he was awarded the Ion Creanga Prize of the Romanian Academy. He was a corresponding member of the German Academy of the Arts Berlin / GDR .
